Each year it seems more and more people are heading abroad for the Christmas holidays. What was once a time to go home and spend it with parents and relatives seems to have evolved in to the time where we jet off, why is this and should we all be doing it as well?

When asked why they head off at Christmas many people will say they are searching for the sun and it is not hard to understand why. With the winter months seemingly longer and harsher than ever, a bit of sun would be a welcome relief for most of us. It does seem strange that we all jet off during the summer when we have the most chance of getting some sun and actually sitting out in our gardens then stay at home when it is the coldest time. Perhaps it is all time for us to start taking out winter holidays and enjoying the bits of sun we get here.
Another reason many people give for jetting away over Christmas is family. Not because they don’t want to spend time with them, well okay some don’t, but for many couples it is to save the arguments about whose family to go to. With so many people moving around the country families can be quite wide spread so you need to pick which one to spend your Christmas with. If you jet away not only do you avoid that argument but you take away the risk of upsetting on set of parents!
With so many people taking their main holidays during the summer there are often amazing deals to be had over the winter periods. If you avoid the traditional winter destinations such as Lapland and head for more sunny climates you might just be surprised at what you can get for your money. Though be warned with the trend for winter holidays increasing these deals won’t be had forever!
